Straight from our Limestone Quarry to your Home/Business

Our limestone quarry is known as the ‘Once-a-week Quarry’ and is situated in the beautiful Peak District park between the villages of Monyash and Sheldon. The Quarry’s name goes back to the early part of the last century, when it was the only quarry that paid it’s workers weekly, all others paid staff fortnightly.

With a new long term lease from the Chatsworth Estate and planning permission for a new working area Mandale Limestone is available again in good quantities. To protect the environmental issues and to minimise damage to the stone is won by hand using traditional ‘plugs and ‘feathers’. When the stone beds are pure enough, dimensional blocks are sawn into thin slabs.

We then cut and polish the limestone to reveal the individual and unique beauty of this historical material. Polished natural stone slabs can be shaped into kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity tops, fire surrounds, hearths and memorial stones. Clients can browse our selection of natural stone slabs by appointment, if they wish, visit our yard to choose their own little piece of history and choose their own worktops, fire surrounds, limestone flooring and more.
