Classical Fireplaces & Hearths

The medium grey coloured limestone takes a high polish and was known locally as Sheldon marble. The fossils are mainly crinoids, including Brachiopods , corals and even occasionally sharks teeth.

The fossil beds can vary considerably in shade, base colour, fossil type and fossil distribution. This combined with the quality craftsmanship makes every fire surround truly unique and special. We occasionally inlay Derbyshire Blue John, a beautiful gem stone into some of the fire surrounds.

This practice which we have revived from the Victorian period brings these two Derbyshire stones together creating a magnificent center piece for any room.
